Sliding wardrobes are one of the best ways to organise your clothes while saving on storage space, but they can be a little daunting to install if you've never done so before. Thankfully, with a little DIY knowledge and these five tips, you should have your sliding wardrobe up and ready to use in no time.

1. Make sure there is enough space

A crucial first step is to ensure that you have enough space for the sliding wardrobe of your choice. If you're installing your wardrobe in a non-standard sized space, you may need to get your sliding doors cut down or order a custom-fit wardrobe. When measuring, also make note of where your electrical wiring and water piping is; you'll need to make sure you won't be screwing through anything important when it comes to installing the wardrobe.

2. Anchor the floor liner

Next, you'll want to measure and cut your floor liner according to the size of your sliding wardrobe. Anchoring it to the wall and floor with nails or screws is a great way to ensure that your sliding wardrobe will be fully supported once it's built.

3. Be careful with the doors

When you install the sliding doors themselves, take care to make sure they're properly aligned. Even just a few millimetres of difference can completely stop your wardrobe from opening as it should. You'll also want to be careful about making sure the doors are tightly affixed, as a sliding door falling out of place can be very dangerous for you and your family.

4. Don't forget the stop-track

A sliding wardrobe should come with a stop-track installed to prevent the doors from moving too far and crashing into each other. This prevents both damage and injuries, so it's important that you install the stop track correctly. Don't be afraid to open and close your sliding doors several times to ensure the stop-track is functioning as it should.

5. Feel free to adjust the rollers

To make your sliding wardrobe open and close more smoothly, you can adjust the rollers along the track. Use a screwdriver to loosen them and re-position them; you don't need too much force when doing it, so be careful not to break the rollers.

Now that all of your hard work has been completed, it's time to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Make sure to keep on top of regular sliding door maintenance, and your wardrobe installation should serve you well for many years to come.

About Me
Colonial furniture and furnishings

I love seeing how inventive the first settlers were in managing to furnish their homes using a combination of the items that they brought from Europe as well as the local raw materials. A lot of these pieces got reused so we don't still have them, but now and then you can find a really cool old piece of furniture from those days, and plenty of manufacturers make furniture that has a colonial feel. I am a bit obsessed with old furniture as I think it tells us a story about how those folks lived their life. If you like historical furniture and furnishings and want to incorporate that style into your home, you'll enjoy this blog.
